The College of Physicians in Vienna was founded in 1837 during the Golden Age of the Vienna School of Medicine. Ignaz Semmelweis, Theodor Billroth, Sigmund Freud and Karl Landsteiner presented their pioneering and groundbreaking findings first to the members of this prestigious medical society. Since the very beginning the College of Physicians in Vienna was an independent scientific institution of doctors of all different disciplines. Scientific discussions and lectures took and still take place on a weekly basis and the library houses the most important medical publications of the 19 century. Over the past few years, the Society underwent extensive modernization and renovation and is considered the Austrian center of medical scientific communication.
